How can I allow Exanima to use more video memory?

I started plaing the new 0.8.2c version. Deleted my saves in "%APPDATA%\Exanima" and started playing in the arena. In the main hub I noticed I get little frame skips/lag spikes. I assume it is the video memory limitation of 2048 MB Exanima has.

I have 32 gigs of ram and a GTX 1050.

I think you may be misunderstanding what Video Memory may be.
Your GTX 1050 must be a 2GB Card, your ram will have nothing to do with Video Memory.
