I want my Exanimals!

Puns aside, over the past week I've done a (slightly) thorough search on the possibility of pets in Sui Generis, if not Exanima. My efforts have been thus far fruitless. This disheartens me slightly; if it isn't being discussed chances are it isn't going to be implemented. But I dare not lose hope. So, grand Bare Mettle community, I beseech you all!

Any thoughts on the possibility of having a furry, or not-so-furry, friend to accompany you on your journey? Yea or Nay? Do you have any proposed schemes on how the devs might accomplish this (thaumaturgy/taming mechanic or item)?

On a side note, if you could have a pet in Sui Generis/Exanima, what species would you prefer and what sorts of exciting shenanigans do you think you and your loyal companion might get into?

There is this little quote i got from here:
I've talked a little with Madoc about this, because it matters in early-game quest building and it's important to the tone. Right now we're not planning on having aggressive wolfpacks in the game, because that sort of fantasy-world aggression is very much counter to their RL nature. I think the largest "normal" predator you'll encounter is a bear, and we aren't planning right now on including any big cats. Boars perhaps - they fit the setting and RL ones are surprisingly ornery in the wild.

All of this is subject to dramatic change, of course... so far I've only been involved in a couple of short brainstorming-type conversations about it.

Sounds like something which wouldn't make it into Exanima. Sui Generis possibly? Don't get your hopes up though.

I did see that quote! It's just ambiguous enough that I can still hope! I know they go for real life behavior in everything, but if you start rearing early enough you can, technically, tame any mammal. Obviously the innate aggression of a wild species makes it more prone to attack when hungry (such as ornery boars) However since they don't seem too focused on having a hugely diverse animal kingdom I guess that means no pets? We can still all dream, though!

Well, I just spent the past twenty minutes reading the world travelling thread. In conclusion, I'll probably have to stick with a companion or three of the human variety, and maybe have an equestrian slave to dump all my belongings and my steel-clad arse onto. Depending on the modding tools given, if any, I may just mod a taming based pet system into the game and go along my merry way.

Thanks for all the replies at the least! And Guy, please tell me those pack-brahmin come with double the packs for double the heads. I know it doesn't work logically but I think it would be just the right bit of quirky if each head was a separate container.

Yeeeaaaahhh well that thread was from over 2,5 years ago. I think animals will be in the game, at least to a limited extent, but probably not in the form of a pack mule or attack dawg escorting you.

Maybe you wanna pick up Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain since it has a horse and combat hound ;)

Perhaps even a combat bear according to new info released today actually. #crazymonkeyknifefights

Na, the container was on the back, like all pack bramins. But it was 400 extra units of weight I could loot and sell, or what have you.

One thing I would love to see is insects, flying, crawling, big ones, little ones. Maybe a little bit too trivial and unnecessary...but I do like finding new bugs.
Stumbling upon an insect cave or hive would certainly be interesting, especially if they had a proper hive mind mentality (obviously thinking of ants and bees).

If you like running into, and subsequently killing, giant insects pick up Monster Hunter. They have a lot of interesting Monsters to hunt. Namely, Seltas Queen and the arachnid Neriscilla. Also Dinosaurs.
