What happens if Kickstarter fails?

I sure hope it won't! But if it does, will it mean a project stop?
Retrying Kickstarter in some months with more content and a better marketing campaign (very good suggestions can be found here in the forum) and maybe a goal of 100.000£ seems to be realistic. (?)

Of course we still have two weeks to go for the current project!

I highly doubt it will mean a project stop. Madoc said he learned programming specifically so he could start making Sui Generis. As far as what their plans are if this does happen I do not know.

In the case that the Kickstarter campaign fails, I would suggest that Bare Mettle carefully think about the game plan, and then contact all of the people who pledged on Kickstarter with an alternative sponsorship strategy. I'm sure that many would be willing to financially support Bare Mettle through other means than Kickstarter, if necessary, in order to support this fantastic project.

No, that happened in London a couple of years back, and it wasn't pretty...

Edit: sorry, bad taste.

Well, at that point the game will be more known... Another kickstarter campaign after spreading more the word?
PS @ opener: great avatar!

Just thought of something... Bare Mettle, why don't you pledge the money raised by Paypal to Kickstarter? That would allow all of the people paying by Paypal to indirectly contribute to the Kickstarter total? Have you considered that?

Yes, I can see the difficulties... I believe the problem is identified on Kickstarter's FAQ:
Can I pledge to my own project? No. Credit card rules forbid project creators from paying themselves.

However, I think that it should be acknowledged that it's Kickstarter's fault that people are being forced to sponsor the project via paypal rather than via Kickstarter. I assume you've contacted Kickstarter to try and get around this issue? Have they point blank refused to allow the paypal payments to contribute towards the Kickstarter goal? If so, that's poor show.

We've tried to contact them a few times, let's just say Kickstarter's support isn't especially forthcoming. To be fair, that's kind of their deal. Unfortunately, at present, Kickstarter do not accept paypal in any way, shape, or form.

Out of interest, how much have you been pledged via paypal? I'm just wondering how much closer to success you'd be with a better service than kickstarter are supplying.

The paypal thing is a real flaw in the system of KS. So you need an X amount of money, you raise half of it through paypal, the KS fails because of it and you lose that half and things go downhill.

I think it is a flaw of paypal also, as they make the transfer instantly, unlike amazon payments and other where the money is transfered only once the KS is finalized.

In a perfect world KS and paypal would negotiate terms to bring a solution to the end user, but this KS thing is probably to little of an issue for anybody to care.

Why don't you guys try to contact Steam, I don't really understand how their Greenlight program works, but I think it could really help you guys.
I just don't want to see this game gone. The engine you guys have could really revolutionize gaming.

Greenlight could be worth looking into. After all, things like this are what it's for.

Also, this game isn't going to be "gone" by any standard. They've been working on this for a year while being separated by long distances and working full-time jobs. I don't think they intend to quit it at any point during the development process, especially considering what they've accomplished so far. Like Madoc said in the Kickstarter pitch video:

Madoc said:
We're going to give it everything we've got, regardless.

If Kick Starter fails, is there any way you can incorporate Amazon/Google Payments. I rather dislike paypal, and I know quite a few others who share the feeling.

You might get more people that way.
