There wouldn't be monthly status updates if that was the case. Also the experimental branch on Steam was updated just two months ago. The main update will be released once the upcoming new area is done.
As for Sui Generis, I understand the frustration but the game has simply become much more ambitious than initially planned, with quality standards rising persistently over the years (not least due to community feedback). Nothing was given up. Also, having playable builds be available as a smaller standalone dungeon crawler (Exanima), allows the technological foundation to be developed and the content pipeline to mature before creating the full game world of SG, which would have to be constantly maintained otherwise (which is already a fair amount of work with Exanima's more limited content).
