Hi everyone,

I haven't played since long time (v 0.5.0), and yesterday i have installed the v 0.6.1.8 but i stopped after 5 min because the brightness of the torch hurts my eyes.

I installed the v 0.5.0 for see if the problem is me or the game, and i have no problem with the old version, i took few screenshots for show the difference :

v 0.6.1.8 : http://hpics.li/0780916
v 0.5.0 : http://hpics.li/e9bbe12

v 0.6.1.8 : http://hpics.li/e3c2779
v 0.5.0 : http://hpics.li/f7716c5

v 0.6.1.8 : http://hpics.li/c8bdbd3
v 0.5.0 : http://hpics.li/877f247

v 0.6.1.8 : http://hpics.li/a98665a
v 0.5.0 : http://hpics.li/de5dd1d

Is there a way for me to soften the brightness of the torch in the new version ?
It's perfect for me in v 0.5.0 for exemple.

I do believe they changed some of the characteristics of flames. I do not think there is any way for you to lower the brightness of the torch though.

Try to set all graphical settings to low, see if its better. If it is better try to find which settings remove "bloom" effect from torch and leave that while putting others back to high.

Is that due to an eye condition or something along those lines? Just curious really, didn't think an artifical light source on a screen could cause eye discomfort.

Yikes! You must have some real issues looking at a white browser window then!:D:rolleyes:

@ Murf
Bad news for me if you are right ^^

@ Zhuliks
Thank, i tried, but nothing change, the light stays aggressive with low settings.

@ Anuri
For example, several people around me have a fireplace, and also, several times every summer with friends we make a campfire all the night, i have no problems to watch the fire or the brightness of fire, it's why i know it's not realistic in the last version of the game.
But don't worry, i don't want change the game of everybody, i just want modify my game for find the brightness of the old version if it's possible, it's more realistic and no uncomfortable for me.

And yes i can adjust monitor brightness, but in this case, it can not solve the problem, because exept the brightness around the torch, i don't want change the rest, otherwise all the game would be too dark.

@ Jdnvodka
It's possible my eyes are little more sensitive, but like i said, i have no problem in everyday life (except for example with the sunny snow, like most people i need sunglasses because it's really uncomfortable, and above all, it's dangerous for the eyes).
It's the same with my others games, no problems.

@ Sneil
Yes, i don't like stay long time on a white browser window (like everybody i think), but it's ok if i adjust monitor brightness =)

A problem is, HDR in videogames today isn't working like the eye's HDR.
When you are looking at a camp fire, your eye is able to adapt locally to the camp fire light one one side and at the night on the other side, in addition to global adaptation to the entire image's luminosity. The human eye is a superb system.
Unfortunately, today's real-time 3D engines are unable to do the local adaptation, and can only adapt to the global luminosity of the entire image. So bright sources and dark spots will be exaggeratedly bright and dark, compared to what we would see directly.
AFAIK, there is currently no algorithm fast enough to calculate it locally in real time on today's computers, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

And we can't let the eye do its job itself, as this would ask for way, way higher luminosity range that our screens can have.
And it would be a terrible idea as it would hurt like hell and cause cumulative eye fatigue (read: ending up needing glasses). Remember that scene in Star Wars, when Luke is watching the two setting suns? Now imagine it with actual luminosity!
Screens actually are often way too luminous already, it is often a good idea to lower it as much as is comfortable. Switching back to full-luminosity screens can feel pretty harsh afterwards, though.
