Exposing my back in combat

So I am a new player with a few hours of play and I understand the ideas behind the game (unforgiving, difficult, physics based gameplay) however I feel like what I intend to do and what actually happens is not accurate. For example, in combat theres times I wind up exposing my back resulting in a huge damaging shot when I intended to circle the enemy in a logical manner. What am I doing that is making me expose my back like that?

Well. Always try and hold the cursor over your enemy. If you keep it too close to your character you sometimes accidentally spin around because of it.
