Another thing I've noticed which helps other projects spike interest is creating in-game fiction. They have a fictitious character tell a story that takes place in the game world. This character doesn't have to exist in the actual game, but it helps to portray what your vision of the world is. Just a simple short story of what some random character sees occurring around him. This demonstrates to people your ability to write an engaging story and also makes them get sucked into your game world (and to start to care about it). This is an easy way to tell people about your world without spoilers
