Gameplay questions

Hello,

I just found out about Sui Generis on RPS today, and I must say after reading the KS page and watching the videos, I'm really impressed. Mainly impressed with the engine that one man coded in his spare time... Wow. Before I get to my gameplay questions, I have to say this engine seems to be exactly the kind of thing I've been hoping to get my hands on as mod hobbyist. So I am hoping this game comes with the developement tools left in.

Anyway, the combat seems very interesting and I'm sure we will get some info on the controls soon. I'd like to know if there will be a active dodge in the game? Watching the fight with that towering mountain of flesh (I understand you called him Piggy or something like that) I was constantly hoping to see the character duck and dive or pounce around. Will this be possible, atleast in lighter armor?

The KS page also says, there will be lots of gear and items in the game. But will there be spears? Not as in, "I wants mah faivurit weapn plz", but actually as an effective weapon. I'd imagine it being an effective tactic against those huge ogrelike monsters to charge in with a long spear and skewer the beast before drawing a secondary weapon and going for the kill... I'm mainly thinking of spears as a one use, heavy damage&injure weapon, rather than a dueling weapon... They are ofcourse effective for keeping enemies far away if used correctly, but as a main weapon they might be a bit of a bore. Pokeypokepokedeath... I was already glad to see the flail in the promotional videos. Not a weapon you see everyday in games!

I'm also wondering about the AI... Spesificly when the player uses ranged weapons. Will the melee enemies just let you fill them with arrows or react intelligently and seek cover or try to flank you? Seeing as you are going for a less traditional aproach with melee combat, will the ranged combat also be more interesting than the standard dicerolling from far away aproach?

One thing I love to do in open world games, is to climb and to jump. I'm not talking about bunny hopping around, but actual functional climbing and jumping. Can I jump on and over tables? Will waist high picket fences stop my progress? Can I attempt to scale the walls of some restricted area or try to leap from rooftop to rooftop? This kind of open world, that allows me to climb and move freely, is much more impressive than an open world where you can go to distant mountains as long as there is no picket fences on the way... This freedom of movement, I think, is a part of that kind of free gameworld you seem to love yourselves and hope to create for us to enjoy...

That is all for now, although I do have many more questions bubling around in my head.

I hope you reach your goal and can fully consentrate on the developement!

Great questions. I am also very curious as to if (and/or how) jumping an climbing will be possible. In the scenario with the ogre fight, I pictured myself as a ranger climbing up some cliffs and then leaping down with two shortswords and stabbing the ogre in the neck while in the air.

As for the AI, in the videos it looked like it was very responsive to your movements (backing off from your weapon and blocking blows), but I can't really say for sure.
