I'd go for the closed helm, as it protects your face.

It varies depending on what kind of armour you want. I don't have a chart of every single item though, so, it's up to you to find out.

Yeah as suposed. But the idea was to buy the cheapest one and use it for the other levels. But the face exposed is meh.

Equipment with "exceptional" prefix is better than "superior", mostly. But "superior" could be matched with "heavy" in some cases (like "superior" is mid-encumbranced, but "heavy" is giving more impact resistance).

i would take the closed one because if you get hit in the face on a open part of the helmet you will take full damage

Back to the muscles... do them, within high, help with encumbrance??? because as far as i can see there is no diference. But i could be wrong.

More muscles do not help with encumbrance. The encumbrance skill is more of, your character "learning" how to use the armour more effectively. But you're not going to know this.

Apart from the adept helmet having slightly worse properties in pierce, yes it does matter. If somebody lands a blow on your face it will do significant damage. The coverage in this game is extremely practical and if a part of your body is exposed it's susceptible to unmitigated damage. Also to the question of exceptional vs. superior, exceptional is better, and the highest quality.
