Balance

Hi!

I just saw the update on the combat mechanics, and it looks absolutely AMAZING!! Well done.

I was wondering if there will be a leveling system or not. And if there will be, is it possible to make your character looks less balanced while fighting at lower levels and as you gain experience, your character becomes more stable. Would be sweet subtle detail.

EDIT: I guess I should`ve posted this in the Gameplay forum, can you move it there pls? ;)

Hey!

From what I know, there will be leveling in the game. There's a number of skills revealed, displayed in points, which I assume will accumulate as you gain experience through doing quests, battle and using your Thaumaturgic powers.

I am going to guess it'll work one of these ways:

1. Your skills are all back-end code, with no way of visibly telling the difference between two identical characters attacking through anything but the amount of hits it takes to kill one enemy. Your skills start out flat, but will level according to how you play, however, there will be no D&D-style character sheet, telling you what your Intelligence, Agility or Strength is.

2. There IS a character sheet that tells you what your character's stats are. Either you create your character at the beginning of the game, putting points into what you think will be useful in your playthrough, or alternatively, you are given a sheet that is completely level, but will diverse and evolve throughout your time playing.

I suspect there may be some information floating around concerning character creation, experience and levelling, but honestly, a quick scan did not reveal anything to me. Perhaps you may stumble upon something yourself, or maybe someone *cough, cough*Komu*cough, cough* will find it in an instant and provide you with a dev quote and a link where possible.

I hope that was at least partially helpful!

Best places to look is actually just http://www.baremettle.com/sg/about/ it states pretty much every thing about character creation. And then you've http://www.baremettle.com/sg/forums/index.php?threads/milestones.1007/#post-10364 Scroll down to post #19. And http://www.baremettle.com/sg/forums/index.php?threads/kickstarter-update-3-character-customisation-and-advancement.35/#post-146

There still are a few things that's uncleared, and I did an attempt yesterday to get the devs to reveal some more, however, as of right now that have failed.

Thanks for the help guys, very interesting reads. The game is way more detailed then I expected. But there`s not much about dialogues.

But there`s not much about dialogues.
Bare Mettle have got a habit of not showing anything that they're not reasonably happy with. I wouldn't expect to see too much regarding the story and dialog until BM are happy with it and want to either showcase it or get some feedback.

If you want some info, I'd start here:

It would be nice if skills could actually improve with the heat of battle. Lets say im figthing someone who is pretty powerful, it will be nice if the actual damage or speed that i have in battle could vary irregularly during the battle.
This too will add to the balance because that way skills that are too overpowered will have weakpoints and skills that are weak would have strong points.

That's actually a nice idea. Ranged attacks for example could suffer from being surrounded by several enemies. But the force of melee attacks could increase due to adrenaline.
