Combat and damage.

For humans, sure, you'd have to be an absolute brute of a man yes. But piggy the ogre (so I've read he's been affectionately called) looks to me, realistically speaking were there ever a creature to actually exist, would have no issue removing a limb of a puny human being. I'd say for these type of creatures it is more than "realistically" possible.

Well that's a problem, because guys who ask to implement dismemberment want to cut enemies into pieces, not to get shred by piggy the whatever :D

I honestly wouldn't mind if that flail came barreling down at just the right angle catching me in just the right spot ripping that arm off in one foul swoop! I honestly think I'd stop, take both hands of keyboard and mouse, bring them to the top of my head and stare at the screen for a few moments of utter disbelief, then bring them them slowly back down with a stoic "Bravo!" and applaud my computer screen as my wife stares at me for a minute then walks away with the biggest roll of the eyes you'd ever seen. Now that would be just sheer awesomeness my friend.

Well in a different game, maybe. But in this particular case I wouldn't like to see that. Yeah hate me :)

We will be releasing an update on how you control your character in combat. We will definitely have blood in our game and almost certainly dismemberment. Weapons will get lodged into other characters as well as shields and possibly other things. This should all work very well with our physics!
More awesome stuff! Really like it, looking forward to the update!

Being wounded and still fighting at the cost of stamina and bleeding loss, or just based on any factor that would put you off a fight slightly by giving you some penalties... Would we have a chance to see this ?

It would be splendid if grotesquery art would have an "actual" effect on our characters, except being a visual-wise delight that's hidden in our tongue.

Additionally it would go quite well if weapons would get rusted, depended on various situations how they were used on past etc, and got blunt in time, so they do lowered damage and such.

It's all about the way to implement any related mechanic(s), in a way such a split second decision would be needed so that our reflexes would be required to be faster to survive unless we'd want to be hallow at the end.

Let we rejoice in macabre just like the much essential meeting: steel tasting hot and salty flesh.

I too am very interested in whether or not there will be an option to pause combat or to slow it down.
Honestly this would break the challenging feel that we've been expecting from Sui Generis, dramatically i think. Just because naturally anyone will always want to pause the game each time things are gotten streched, or run into danger. Thus, game could easily turn into a safe zone garden.

On the other hand what i truly expect from Sui Generis is; forcing us to think how to develop a strategy depending on various conditions, using our reflexes and split second decisions wherever possible. This could be real in future if and only by the hands of baremettle i believe.

Combat will be strictly real time. Don't forget we also want this game to be multiplayer. There's plenty of scope for tactics, in our opinion pausing would just spoil the gameplay (some games come to mind). Slowing time could be interesting but we're not convinced about actually putting in the game.

Not slow down, but if you feel it's challenging, maybe try range, Mage from afar? One thing I am looking forward to is working as a team, and lets say there was a 'dragon' you couldn't really slay a dragon on its own realistically (irony) but maybe a warrior Mage and ranger could working together.

Ok, I have to ask... :)
Did you ever play the 2001 action-adventure Severance: Blade of Darkness?
To me and nearly all I know who played it, consider it to be still the most challenging, sophisticated and realistic combat-system to date. Please give it a try and get inspired! (If you haven't played it already)
A 100 MB demo can be downloaded for example here: http://www.fileplanet.com/51710/50000/fileinfo/Blade-of-Darkness-PC-Demo
when installing the full game (I don't know about the demo) all (!) the scripting files defining the combat (written in Python) are openly accessible through the game folder. It is most definitely worth having a look!
I hope my over-excitement is not too distracting, but having seen your collision detection system, it seems you can even take the BoD combat one step further!

@Harrok I hope not! Die by the Sword is not even in the same league.
The new combat video looks great, but I am missing a lock on feature - where you can center the camera on one enemy and easily strafe around and hit the opponent.

I mean the way hand with weapon moves and interacts with enemies (for example) is completely same

Is a lock on feature necessary? From what I can see, the player is essentially locked to the mouse, that is the main advantage to the isometric view, in combat, over the third-person view. It allows what'd normally be a lock on system, to be where the character is facing and attacking naturally. What I mean to say is, if you want to strafe around an opponent, you simply hover your mouse over them and hold A/D and it should walk in a circle around the enemy. This adds more skill and allows for more precision, if you want to run and turn past an enemy then go into a strafe, it can be achieved more naturally than running, turning and pressing the key to lock on and then starting to strafe.

Few questions about combat,

What are your position on combat stances? What will be deteminer in that case? The classes, the weapons, the races(build)?

Second question,

Have your team thought about, using both-hand combat? By that i mean combining Gaming Keyboard ( Everything in reach of your left hand) with the use of Mouse. With that not limiting, yourself to only WASD, Right-Click, Left-Click and Middle-Button. I believe, that the direct use of the auxiliar buttons (Q,E,1,2,3,4,R,F,Z,X,C,...) into combat, would open new possibilities to combat besides the old-fashioned Weapons Hotkeys.

Sincerely, Hook.
