Influences

So I have to ask, from both a gameplay and lore perspective, where have the influences for Sui Generis come from? Both in terms of games and other media.

I ask because of how closely a lot of what you've presented seems in keeping with FROM Software's Souls Series (if this is the case then rest assured I find this a positive), in terms of a "hidden narrative", "difficult combat", "low fantasy" and a focus on weapons and movesets over conventional levelling.

That was just a stab in the dark, but I would love to know where you're currently drawing inspiration from.

On a side note, I'm sure you're all busy with the Kickstarter campaign so don't feel like you have to rush a reply, I'm happy to wait! I pledged today and (I also noted in my comment on the Kickstarter page) would be more than happy to lend my skills for anything audio - be it music or otherwise.

Great looking game. Great looking pitch. I'm excited to see how it plays out.

Our inspirations over the years in terms of games have been most notably the Ultima series (including UO!), Morrowind (though it had very serious gameplay flaws) and a few other games here and there that we found had certain fun and interesting gameplay elements. However, over the last ten years or so we've mostly just been learning what you definitely should NOT do with a game. I'm not saying they're not there but I'm pretty sure I haven't seen anything new in games over the last ten years that didn't simply break the experience entirely.

In terms of books a few of us are avid readers. Some authors we enjoy very much are Jack Vance, Gene Wolfe and Joe Abercrombie. Various other authors have influenced us but they would make for strange examples.
