The goal here is to come up with ideas for the skill system that live up to the feel and mechanics of the game.


Here are the ones I came up with, feel free to add.


Hard Parry:
With a firm wrist and a swift arm, parry strength is increased. This effectively decreases damage and the tendency to take damage while parrying.

Combat Roll:
While on the ground it becomes possible to roll, to better position yourself and dodge attacks before getting up. By holding the crouch button and pressing a move direction, you will attempt to twist your body to maneuver to that position.

Bouncing Step
You are particularly adept at canceling your momentum and reversing your direction. Leg strength for this purpose is increased.

Sway
You will naturally sway out of the way of incoming slashes if holding the movement button away from them.

Extreme Sway
You will fall away with enough force to potentially fall, in order to get away from incoming slashes.

Fundamentals of Groundwork
You will rise faster from a crouch.

Blade Sense
You will naturally try to avoid hitting the ground, and walls if possible, while swinging your weapon.

Break-Fall
You will take less damage when falling and slamming into objects (currently is 0).

Leveraged Swing
You naturally put your body into your swings when there is resistance, applying more force and making takedowns/knockdowns more likely.

Basic Shield Form:
You take less damage when blocking with shield.

Aggressive Shield Form
You will begin blocking attacks earlier with shield, enabling you to cut them off at their source and further reduce damage.

Precise Swing Angling
Your swing angles with always start based upon the position of the cursor relative to your facing. Closer to your facing will result in high-low swings, and farther will result in low-high swings.

Pivot Turn
You will naturally turn more quickly in combat

Firm Stance
While Swinging, you will turn less quickly in combat.

Angled Step:
The additional change in vector you can make during an established movement is increased.

Grappling Form:
Your ability to push back opponents is increased

Repel:
When pushing opponents away, you will at the same time push yourself back to increase the distance.

Lifting Form:
The force you exert with your body lifting up is increased, allowing for the enemy to be lifted up and thrown if in the correct position.

Off-Hand Balance
When having one or more hands free, that open hand will naturally move to try to keep your balanced.

I like the idea of passive skills as on increase in proficiency. Better handling and balance too.
