Kingdom Come - Deliverance

They're already almost to their goal. I'll probably wait till they've finished the game before purchasing it (they don't really need my help) but it looks like it could be amazing. I'm slightly worried about the combat though, I read in a preview that it looked a little too close to QTEs.

Small details about the game have been available for a long time and it's looked mildly interesting. Now that they've launched their Kickstarter and a new trailer to better show off the game, it looks much more impressive and interesting. I'm really glad it worked out so well for them, it sounds like they've been working super hard without knowing if things would work out.

Can't wait for the Alpha release later this year :D

I think, for a project of this size, it's always going to be a matter of keeping your head down and putting your back into it. I think if they had been a lot more/too community-oriented and talkative, their vision would never have been visualised in such a spectacular way.

I can only hope they manage to continue their amazing work into a resulting game that will be their dream game as much as ours!

The stretch goals have me slightly worried, as well as the consideration of having Sean Bean as a voice actor. Don't get me wrong, having Sean Bean there would be cool, I just can't imagine there wouldn't be a better way to spend the money. The whole Sean Bean idea was just a knee-jerk reaction from the comments section. Same with the playable female character part. It feels like they just shoehorned it in because of many people asking whether you could play as a female. If the story was gender neutral, it would be a given. Now it's there as a compromise, not because it makes the game better.

I agree about stretch goals as well particularly "playable female character" bracket wasting 100K £, a bit over the top and unnecessary imo. And I don't see why people asking a gender to be created while there are greater options like AI advancement, other details etc.

But still it shouldn't prevent them to make a great game based on my foresight. Would have wished BM also have gained that much money at least close to them since they deserve much more.

Yes, there is always the risk of them overspending, that's no secret. But I doubt they will blow most of their money on features that are, to some degree, irrelevant to the gameplay.

I will agree with you that the whole female gender thing is dumb. Like, really, really dumb. Women were at a total disadvantage in the Medieval times, and this would lead to the story becoming un-doubtfully inaccurate from a historic standpoint. There is no excuse, within the context of the game, for letting a female character get into the same position as a man in that time period. It kind of ruins their whole "Dungeons, No Dragons" slogan. Their attempts at making a historically sound game will kind of lose their colour when you notice there is no disadvantage when being a female within the game. We all know what happened to Jeanne d'Arc.

As far as money goes, I'm sure they will spend most of it well. You have to realise they still have their private investor for additional funding. I doubt they will pull a Tim Schafer, over-design the entire thing then go to Steam Greenlight and have to ask for additional donations to fund Act I Part II and III.

Let's just cross our fingers and hope all goes well.

I'm sure they'll finish the game, they said they would receive what? 3m$ (or pounds?) from their investor. Who knows how much they'll get now after he's seen the demand. And it's very unlikely he would just abandon them after having put so much money into it. I would've just hoped for better ways to spend the money, a more detailed world, more conversation options, etc... etc... Oh well, at the very least the stretch goals are realistic.

You guys do know they wont spend 100k$ on a female character right?
The stretch goal is +100k, that doesn't mean they'll put all the money on it.

If it cost them 5k$ for the female character, that means they've 95k$ to fix other part of the game with, no to mentioned higher salary for the team.

Yep, just like lots of people assumed Star Citizen ships to cost 1m to create when they just were some focus in the grand scheme of what x strech goal allows the team to do, we're just given what really appeals to us without the whole picture.

As for the woman char, for realism sake she will not make it into the knighthood, but from the little details we've had on her I'd bet she's one of the gear working in the shadows, like some assassin/spy working for a lord ; there being a woman may not be a disadvantage but just a different way of doing things (think about Japan and the kunoichi, the women ninja specialised in spying thanks to seduction). I don't really know if such things existed in medieval times (when their job was about secrecy, not nowing they actually existed would be the best compliment for them), but I don't think it'd be so hard to include in the scenario.

Of course, it's impossible to know what it'll cost beforehand. Heck, it might even cost more than 100k(pounds) depending on the length of it. The point is that it could be spent on better things.

I feel like it's the completely wrong approach to create a good story. The prequel is not included because it makes the story better. It's included because there has to be a playable female character. It might be good, it might be terrible.
Imagine if they were to create a stretch goal for a playable asian character. They now would have to come up with some fucked up reason some Asian guy ended up in medieval Czechoslovakia, and it better be good and fit with the rest of the story.

Okay, seems like they already had the story for it finished. That's good to know.
To be clear the woman was already in our game as a NPC and the twist would happen anyway. You would just be able to play that section instead of getting it told. However we cannot give the player the option to choose sex of the "hero" because it would clash with our creative vision, which is to deliver a story based on big historical events in authentic medieval society. And the story we crafted simply cannot happen for a woman. Even in disguise. Forced female hero would be no good. Sorry. We want women to play this game and we would love to receive feedback from them. I hope this sheds some light on the topic. Thank you for understanding and most importantly thank you for the amazing support!

Sounds to me like they have a good plan for allowing some people to play as a Female character. As they mentioned the main character can't be female because it wouldn't fit the story and historical setting. They had plans for an important female character in the story and they as a prelude they plan to let it be playable from the Female character's perspective. Sounds fine to me.

As for the rest of their stretch goals, a lot of them are there to make it feel like the money is being used for something and to keep driving the funding forward. With the fact that they have an outside investor funding most of the project it's very unclear how much money and time each stretch goal really ends up costing them.

Warhorse just posted a videoupdate on combat.

Highlights for me were the very good physical reactions when hit, the fact that blows don't go through armor and, specially, the reveal that you can do feints (i.e. trick the enemy to protect say his left side and then attack his right side).

All in all it looks like a fun, engaging combat system and I'm very glad that more companies are willing to push the boundaries of the existing hack-and-slashy melee combat.

Well talking and promising about realism and then a sword goes through a plate mail looks funny, also that holding head will get old pretty fast if not fixed. The blow is not done even by a mallet so it looks unnatural to me. They say they have been working with real life fencers and combatans etc none of them warn the company which is accurate and which not ?

But still it will would be fun though at least...
